2 dead, 9 wounded as Chicago gun violence continues

At least two people were killed and nine others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago.

The weekend’s first shooting took place around 8:15 p.m. Friday when an 18-year-old man was shot in the 6800 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue. The man was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach and was later pronounced dead, police said.

Just before 10 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder near 38th Street and Wentworth Avenue. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and was last listed in stable condition, officials said.

Around 11:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the 1900 block of South Harding Avenue. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition with a wound to the leg.

Three people were shot in two separate shootings around 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Two people were shot in the 5800 block of West Irving Park Road. A 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition and a 22-year-old suffered a graze wound to the abdomen but refused treatment, police said.

At the same time, a 24-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the 7400 block of North Rogers Avenue in Rogers Park. The man ran to a nearby CTA station where police found him, according to police. He was transported in stable condition to St. Francis Hospital.

Just over an hour later, an 18-year-old woman was shot in the foot in the 1700 block of East 71st Street, police said. She was treated at Jackson Park Hospital and released, according to authorities.

Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a 26-year-old was shot in the buttocks in the 1400 block of North Spaulding Avenue. She was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital where she was last listed in good condition, police said.

Around 4 a.m., a second fatality took place when a man in his 20s was shot in the 2400 block of East 79th Street.

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Thirty minutes later, another shooting took place near Belmont and California Avenues, police said. A man walked into Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a wound to his thigh but no other information surrounding the shooting was immediately available.

The most recent shooting took place Saturday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of West 44th Street.

A man in his 20s was shot multiple times in the arm, leg and buttocks, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was last listed in stable condition. No further details were immediately available on the shooting.
